TWOgoals from George Purcell saw Hornchurch beat Soham Town Rangers to stay within touching distance of league leaders Canvey Island.
The breakthrough arrived on 36 minutes as striker Purcell nudged the visitors ahead.
Despite finding themselves in the second half of the table, Rangers rallied and levelled just minutes into the secondhalf through Lee Chaffey.
But Hornchurch have not gone unbeaten in the league this season for no reason and Purcell hit the winner just after the hourmark.
