SOUTHShields got their noses in front early in the game, but were then involved in a titanic struggle right to the last minute.
They were forced to dig deep for the win.
From a poor clearance on four minutes, a low cross was driven in from the right and Graeme Armstrong scored with a diving header.
Both teams then had long-range chances, but they cancelled each other out.
Dimitri Tuanzebe had a great chance for Clitheroe on 52 minutes as his shot flashed across the goal.
