DAWN on the first day of May sees me sat quietly on the moors in the Yorkshire Dales. It is a crisp, frosty -3°C as the sun coats the rough grass with an ever-deepening golden glow. I do not hear or see another person or mechanical sound for over three hours: truly peaceful surroundings.
Throughout the day, I work my way across Yorkshire to Lancashire. I am parked at the Tom Finney Stadium, Bamber Bridge, long before any players arrive for this important match.
