WIDNES are aiming for the National League but joint playermanager Kevin Towey insists their ambitions are not built on a pile of money.
The Whites have achieved back-to-back promotions from the North West Counties League despite having a change of management early in the season.
Joey Dunn stepped down in October and the club turned to senior players Steve Akrigg and Towey.
“We were asked if it was something we’d be interested in”, said 34-year-old Towey, who has scored more than 300 goals in the NPL for the likes of Warrington, Leek, Skelmersdale and Barnton.
