WHYTELEAFE and Guernsey were grateful not to be playing in blazing heat, but the first half was still a cagey encounter.
The teams had enjoyed differing pre-seasons, with Whyteleafe winning five of their eight fixtures.
Guernsey, by contrast, had played just one – a loss against Worthing – and did look slightly rusty as a result.
They still took the lead in 20 minutes with a well-worked move and a towering header from centre-half William Fitzgerald...
