A PENALTY save by Merstham keeper Amadou Tangara in first half added time, was the turning point as the home side prevailed.
It was the visitors who came closest to scoring in the 16th minute, when a George Landais free-kick was touched onto the post by Tangara.
Town’s Nico Cotton was the next to test Tangara with a fiercely struck shot.
The Moatsiders came close to breaking the deadlock, when Reece Hall’s shot was touched onto the post by Town keeper Ben Nouse.
