EAST Thurrock moved off the bottom of the table when two early goals established a bridgehead and a superb rearguard action let them take the honours in this hard-fought Essex derby.
One time Claret Ben Marlow headed them ahead inside the first minute and then Sam Higgins broke away and converted from a narrow angle in the 21st minute.
Cue a Chelmsford revival and they laid virtual siege to the home goal but found centrebacks Steve Sheehan and Ryan Scott in indomitable mood.
