STEPHEN THOMPSON celebrated his 250th start for Darlington by netting the only goal at local rivals Blyth.
Spartans started well with visiting keeper Jonnny Maddison forced into early saves from Michael Liddle’s wayward cross and Adam Wrightson’s tame effort.
Dan Maguire then forced Maddison into a low save before Jordan Nicholson pounced on an error from Liddle and called home stopper Peter Jameson into action.
The visitors broke the deadlock with a disputed penalty when Jordan Watson was judged to have brought down Nicholson.
