TOMMY WOOD’S secondhalf double breathed life into Burgess Hill Town’s bid to stay up, but landed an unexpected blow to Merstham’s play-off hopes.
It was a well-deserved win by the Hillians, who were rarely troubled by the Moatsiders, who were a pale shadow of the side that put five past Harlow the previous Saturday.
The game as a spectacle was a poor one and the first half was instantly forgettable.
The best chance fell to Town’s Ross Murdoch in the second minute, but his finish rather summed up a desperate 45 minutes.
