NEWCASTLE Benfield avenged their FA Cup defeat at the hands of Workington last season.
Both sides had plenty of chances but with a replay looking likely, Dennis Knight converted a late penalty to deny the battling Reds.
Cyril Giraud broke through early on but he lost the ball under pressure inside the six-yard box.
The 22nd minute saw the hosts come even closer, as Aiden Haley struck the upright from distance. Scott Allison almost put Workington in front in the 36th minute but his drive bobbled just wide of the post.
