A SLOW first half at a boggy Latimer Park erupted into life on 19 minutes when Poppies sub Michael Richens unleashed a piledriver of a shot from 30 yards into the bottom corner.
Just eight minutes later and the visitors had a chance to level when Tyler Walton was brought down in the area. Hayhurst stepped up but Paul White flung himself to his right to pull off his second penalty save in two games.
Up at the other end Kettering’s Dan Nti was brought down by keeper Kyle Trennery to win a penalty for the hosts.
