CHANCES were few and far between but ultimately a close-range Devarn Green effort handed Southport the points and left Gloucester teetering just above the drop zone.
The main talking point of the first half was an injury to Gloucester’s Jack Senior that saw him replaced by Jack James just before the interval.
The second half started with a bit more pace and it took just 13 minutes for Southport to take the lead.
Green latched on to a bouncing ball in the box and struck it straight into the back of the net from close range.
