SUBSTITUTE Callum Dolan bagged the winner with 12 minutes left as Matlock edged out Grantham.
The Gingerbreads had the better of the opening 20 minutes but neither keeper was unduly troubled as the two sides cancelled each other out.
Grantham almost struck when Remaye Campbell just failed to get to a crossed ball.
Reece Kendall went close at the near post for Matlock and Campbell shot wide at the other end but the half ended goalless. The sides battled hard in the second half but chances were at a premium.
