Lewes delight at landing new manager Tony Russell

chairman Stuart Fuller believes the side have landed one of the best managers around in Tony Russell – and he believes the former boss can take them to the South.

Russell and assistant Joe Vines left the Wands this summer following a successful spell that had seen them guide the club to the Isthmian South East title in 2018-19.

When the 2020-21 season was curtailed, Cray were sat just outside the play-off places, following last season’s second-place finish when the 2019-20 campaign was declared null and void.

And Fuller couldn’t be happier to land the pair.

He said: “Tony is an outstanding manager, with one of the best track records at our level over the last few seasons.

“There won’t be many who haven’t admired the way Cray Wanderers have played in that period and we look forward to Tony and Joe bringing their style of to the Dripping Pan. Our ambition is to be playing Step 2 and we believe Tony and Joe will build a platform to get us there.”

Russell added: “We are both excited to be joining the club, who will be able to match our ambitions.

“Our aim is bring success to the club, continuing the excellent work the club has achieved with their youth players, ensuring that we play with the same integrity and values that the club has established off the pitch.”
