AN early goal was enough to give Whitby a flying start to their campaign.
The goal came after five minutes when Jacob Hazel beat a defender to a long ball forward and crossed for Marcus Giles to place a first-time shot past Matty Alexander.
Lancaster’s hopes were not helped by having Niall Cowperthwaite sent off after 28 minutes after a strong challenge that resulted in most of the Whitby team surrounding the referee who brandished a red card.
