BRIGHTLINGSEA Regent started the season with a victory for the first time in five seasons.
The Rs missed a penalty after 15 minutes but two second-half goals rendered that miss irrelevant.
The first half saw little in the way of chances but Regent should have taken the lead on 15 minutes when literally handed an opportunity from the penalty spot.
A Merstham defender handled a good inswinging corner by Billy Wales.
However, Merstham keeper Toby Bull produced a good save from Jake Clowsley’s spot-kick to keep the game scoreless.
