GATESHEAD were made to fight all the way by a youthful side who play two levels beneath them.
The hosts were fuming three minutes into added time when they thought they had levelled with a Ryan Brooke header, but he was given offside.
The first goal fell to the Heed after five minutes, when Dan Ward cut in before hitting a looping 20-yarder over Joe Young.
Six minutes later, Jacques Welsh levelled when he stabbed in.
Ryan Brooke gave the Linnets the lead and McAuley Langstaff ’s goal sent the sides in at the break sharing four goals.
