A CUP upset on paper, but Welwyn bossed the game from start to finish and deserved their win.
Welwyn’s first goal after 24 minutes summed it up perfectly when Jay Rolfe was left unmarked six yards out to head home from a corner. It could have been worse for the home side, but Calvin Ekpiteta cleared another corner off the line.
Merstham started the second half better but another free header from a corner by Lee Close after 56 minutes put the visitors in a commanding position.
