JOHN Askey took charge of his first match at York City yesterday – just a week after arriving at the club.
The former Macclesfield Town, Shrewsbury and Port Vale manager was added to the Minstermen’s managerial set-up following the suspension of assistant manager Micky Cummins amid historical betting rule breach charges.
Days later, York parted company with manager Steve Watson following last weekend’s defeat at Leamington, leaving Askey to be offered the top job on an interim basis until the end of the season.
