RAY ELLIS asked which Non- League player holds the record for the greatest number of matches played for one club (NLP, Feb 13). Marine legend, Peter Smith, played 957 games.
He was signed from Wrexham in 1974 and scored 174 goals, despite playing most of those games at centre back.
Smith also played for Los Angeles Aztecs, marking Pele against New York Cosmos.
Although Pele scored twice, he was full of praise for him, saying he had made him work extremely hard throughout.
