The duo have played a significant role in helping Mike Williamson’s side to the top of the North and they will now remain at the International Stadium until at least the summer of 2024.

Former Newcastle United forward Campbell returned to Gateshead last summer after previously spending a short loan spell with the Tynesiders during his time with the Magpies.

After completing a move from ahead of the season, the forward has scored 14 goals and provided 11 assists during 46 appearances in all competitions.

He revealed his motivation for extending his time with the Heed was based upon the club “going in the right direction”.

He said: “The club felt very home-like to me from the minute I walked through the door.

“I’m back home, it’s local to me, I’m settled and we’ve got a good group so everything is going in the right direction.

“The fact there’s two clubs fighting it out at the top is massive, it gives us all of the motivation we need.

“As hard as it is going to be we’re confident we can keep picking up results and see where it takes us.”

Right-back Tinkler is also in his second spell with the Tynesiders after returning to the club from National League North rivals last summer.

The former Middlesbrough academy player has been a model of consistency throughout the current season and is excited by what lies ahead.

“The way the season has went has obviously helped,” said Tinkler.

“This year has been a bit of a saving grace, I’ve really enjoyed it and it’s got me loving again.

“The project that we’ve got going on is quite a big thing, we’ve got a method and a way we’re doing things and it excites me.”

Gateshead will hope to further boost their National League North title hopes when they travel to play-off chasing on Saturday.

The Heed currently sit four points ahead of second-placed , who head to the North East to face Darlington this weekend.
