I ATTENDED the Bromley v Dover Athletic Kent derby on Saturday.
I was interested in seeing two teams who represent the birthplaces of two football pioneers:
Bromley-born William Leslie Poole, was “The Father Of Uruguayan Football”, and Dover-born former Kent cricketer Cuthbert Ottaway was the first England captain in the first international football match in history, v Scotland.
And I was wearing my Newell’s Old Boys shirt. The Argentine giants, the club of Messi, Bielsa, and Pochettino, are named after a 16-year-old emigre from Kent.
