FA Cup fourth qualifying round draw made

A meeting of two old FA Cup rivals was among the ties pulled out of the velvet bag in the fourth qualifying round draw on Monday.

National League clubs enter this season’s competitions for the first time at this stage and current leaders Wrexham have been handed a trip to National League North club Blyth Spartans.

The two sides famously met in the fifth round in 1978, with a controversial equaliser by Wrexham’s Dixie McNeill forcing a replay in the North East.

In front of over 42,000 supporters at Newcastle United’s St James Park, a brave Spartans display went without reward as a 2-1 win earned Wrexham a quarter-final tie against Arsenal.

Elsewhere in the draw, National League strugglers Scunthorpe United will be in the North East as they visit Northern Premier League Premier Division title challengers South Shields.

United Counties League club Anstey Nomads have landed a plum tie as they host Chesterfield and Clitheroe or Bury will entertain York City.

There are several all-National League ties as Altrincham and Gateshead meet in the FA Cup for a second consecutive season and Dorking Wanderers host Eastleigh.

Southend United have been handed an away tie at and Boreham Wood will hope to begin another memorable run when they entertain Wealdstone.

All ties will take place on the weekend of Saturday 15th October, with winning clubs taking home £9,375 and losing clubs collecting £3,125 from the competition prize fund.
