Taylor, 23, is on an NHS waiting list for a full reconstruction of the ACL – aprocess which could potentially see him out of the game for up to two years.
This prompted Baker – who had suffered a similar injury during his playing career – to start a GoFund-Me page in order to get him the proper rehabilitation he needs.
“I knew exactly what he would have been feeling when done his cruciate and I think that’s what spurred me on,” Baker said.
“He’s looking at another 12 months on the NHS waiting list, so that’s another year out, nine months recovery, and six months getting back up to speed. All of a sudden, he might have lost two-and-ahalf years of what could be a fantastic football career.”
FC Halifax Town have also reached out to support Taylor’s recovery with fans, staff, and even players donating.
“To see a reaction like that it really speaks volumes about them as a club,” Baker added. “The nicest gesture was yesterday when one of their players [Luke Summerfield] donated their £200 manof-the-match prize money, which he received back in October against Oldham.
“He’s a Halifax player so he won’t be earning thousands and thousands of pounds a week so I was quite touched by it. As a club, supporters, and individuals, it was different class.”
The GoFundMe campaign so far has raised over £4,000 – over halfway to the £7,000 target.
Baker also revealed that there were many other people yet to donate who had promised to, so the total amount is expected to rise even more.
