Legend was both a friend and idol

I was really saddened by the news that legendary football commentator John Motson has passed away at the age of 77.
John was a truly devoted Non-League fan. He started off his career covering Barnet FC at Underhill Stadium for the local newspaper.
Then, of course, John exploded onto our screens when commentating on Southern League underdogs Hereford United’s fabled FA Cup victory over top flight Newcastle United in 1972.
