Former Premier League ace Gary Taylor-Fletcher is back in management – with Step 10 grassroots side AFC Crewe.
The 41-year-old – who enjoyed a 20-year playing career with the likes of Blackpool, Leicester City, and Huddersfield Town, scoring over 100 goals – has taken over the ambitious Crewe & District League side after winning 90 per cent of a fans’ vote to lead the dugout.
Taylor-Fletcher, who left NPL Premier side Nantwich Town last month alongside coboss Ritchie Sutton, was drawn to AFC Crewe following the recent acquisition of the club by Nufan, a football revolution giving fans from all over the world the chance to own their own club and shape its direction for the future.
“I’m really looking forward to the challenge of building something from the ground upwards and delighted to have the backing of the co-chairman and the Nufan board,” Taylor-Fletcher said, “Having experienced management for the last three or four years and seeing how the game is going it was a project which I have been looking for to build and leave a lasting mark on a club.
“I started off in Non-League and starting off I had to sometimes take a step back in order to move forwards, with a great relationship with each club’s fan base.
“I want to help AFC Crewe move forward and progress in the right way, which I know is what the Nufan board members want and demand.”
Co-chairmen Liam Bond and Gareth Jones said: “This is a monumental day for AFC Crewe. To have someone with the stature as Gary managing AFC Crewe speaks volumes about the project we’re building here and we’re incredibly excited about the future of the club as a result.”
