As Mark Duffy clambers aboard the managerial rollercoaster at Macclesfield, the last person you’d expect the 37-year-old to tap for advice is Chris Wilder.
In 2018-19, Duffy was the creative heartbeat of the Sheffield United side that won promotion to the Premier League, scoring six times and inspiring countless victories.
Yet by the time the Blades kicked off in the top flight, he was history. Shortly after returning for pre-season, Duffy arranged a meeting with Wilder and his assistant Alan Knill to discuss extending his contract, which expired the following summer.
