■ WIDNES recorded their first win in three with a narrow win over Chasetown. The game’s only goal came after 17 minutes when James Steele arrowed a well-taken finish into the corner after a piece of brilliance from Kris Holt.
Michael Ellison’s home side kept an impotent Scholars team at arm’s length in a largely uneventful first half.
Chasetown made a tactical adjustment at the break and should have levelled through Ben Lund after 54 minutes but he blazed over.
