ATHERTON Collieries initially led, and scored twice in four minutes late on, but Ashton United’s inspired finishing ensured there would be no shock for the strugglers at Hurst Cross.
The game sprung into life just before the halfhour mark as Ben Rydel’s corner was headed on by Sidi Fofana at the far post and duly converted by Dylan Moonan.
Four minutes later, good work from Jake Charles earned the hosts a corner and Alex Byrne’s subsequent delivery was swept home by Sean Newton.
