WARE won a hard-fought contest to make ground on Abbey in the battle for the play-offs.
There was a prolonged and heavy downpour in the first half that made the ball difficult to control.
In a game of few direct chances for either side, Alex Warman settled the result after 18 minutes by scoring direct from a corner.
Abbey were never out of the game, but like Ware. they rarely got a direct shot on goal. They also found the home defence limiting them with Jack Grosvenor in command at the back.
