Vastly experienced striker Danny Kedwell has been appointed boss of Step 4 Ashford United.
The 40-year-old had spent the last two seasons as player assistant manager of Isthmian Premier Chatham Town. This was after an eight-month stint in charge of Cray Wanderers, before leaving in December 2021 by mutual consent.
Isthmian Division One South East side Ashford United were without a permanent manager for the final month of the campaign. Kedwell replaces interim boss Alan Walker, who oversaw a 12th placed finish.
Kedwell has scored 228 goals in 612 appearances in a glittering career which took in spells at hometown club Gillingham in the EFL, sandwiched between impressive seasons with AFC Wimbledon (pictured scoring a promotion winning penalty in 2011) and Ebbsfleet United. He signed off his time at Chatham with a consolation goal on the final day defeat to Horsham, shortly before they missed out on a third successive promotion with a play-off final loss against Enfield Town.
He paid tribute to his former club on the official Ashford United website:
“Firstly, I would like to put on record, my sincere gratitude to everyone at Chatham Town Football Club.
“My time there has been unbelievable, with great memories and making friends for life.
“I wish them every success as they push for greater things, which I’m sure will come.
“Ashford United is a great club, with excellent facilities, people and fans. I can’t wait to get started!”
