Spinks steps down at Romford

winners have announced that manager Dan Spinks has stepped down, with captain Kris Newby taking over.

Having stepped up from assistant manager in March 2023, Spinks led Romford to the FA Vase Final 14 months later. They overcame 3-0 earlier this month to win the competition for the first time in their history.

In the league, Romford finished 3rd in the , where they lost the play-off final to Sporting Bengal United.

A club statement on the official website said:

“I am not sure he (Spinks) fully understands the joy and success he brought the club in such a short while. I am sure supporters will want to add their own thanks and gratitude to the players, coaching staff, but especially Dan for an incredible memory, most of us never dreamed of.

“We are pleased to announce that Kris Newby has accepted the position of manager. Kris has personified what Romford FC is not only on the pitch but off it as well. We are confident that Kris will get a group of players to gather who will give 100 %, which is that can be asked.

Newby made 41 appearances last season, scoring eight goals en route to lifting the Vase at .

Romford will play their games at in the 2024/25 season after their lease at Rookery Hill, former home of , was not renewed.
