IT wasn’t a typical day in the office last weekend for Tadcaster Albion captain Dan Thirkell, who found himself as an emergency stand-in goalkeeper in their FA Cup game against Seaham Red Star.
Disaster struck on 23 minutes when first choice goalkeeper Sam Green was sent off for impeding Seaham’s Liam Wright.
It meant Thirkell, 36, usually a defender, honourably stepped in between the sticks to see the tie out.
Despite the noble offer, there may have been an element of guilt which crept into the skipper...
