ST ALBANS CITY won their first game of the season to rise off the bottom of the table, courtesy of a Ken Charles goal.
There was a fast start to the game, with both sides having shots on target early on.
Mike Atkinson and James Roberts then had opportunities for the hosts.
Deon Woodman had the away side’s best chance of the half at the other end on 24 minutes, glancing wide from a corner.
The former QPR centre-half joined on loan from Wealdstone on Tuesday and was outstanding.
