Steve Pitt is pumped for return to Braintree Town

Former assistant boss Steve Pitt has returned to to lead the club’s battle against relegation.

Pitt worked at Cressing Road alongside former Iron boss Angelo Harrop from the summer of 2022 to his departure at the end of 2023.

Now he has been drafted back in as first-team manager after popular boss Harrop was surprisingly sacked by the club last week.

RETURN: Steve Pitt

Pitt ‘looking forward to the challenge’ at the Iron

“I’m honoured and privileged to take on the role of first team manager at and will now look to build on the foundations that Angelo has already laid,” Pitt said.

“We are now all looking forward to the challenge that lays ahead.”

Pitt will be assisted in the dugout for former and boss Karl Duguid and Phil Coleman, who comes in as first-team coach.

Pitt returns with the newly-promoted club sitting just a point above the relegation places and chairman Lee Harding believes the arrival of the new management team will help boost the club’s survival hopes.

“When we approached Steve about the job he was about to take another role in the game,” Harding revealed.

“We talked at length about what had happened and were impressed with his honest assessment of where the club are at and his thoughts on turning our season around.

“We all know there is work ahead of us but we know Steve well – It’s good to see him back.

“He played a pivotal role in our progress in the past two seasons and I am confident that we can look forward to the remainder of the season with optimism.”

Caretaker boss Justin Moseley, however, has left Braintree after turning down an opportunity to remain part of the club’s coaching set-up.
