CHAYNIE BURGIN rescued a point for Potters Bar Town to spoil what looked to be the perfect start to the Michael Birmingham and Jamie Howell era in charge of Bognor Regis Town.
Bar had a golden chance to lead seconds in when a corner fell to Bailey Stevenson, who could only find the goalkeeper with his effort, and on the follow-up, Harry Brant curled the ball onto the crossbar.
Jasper Mather gave the visiting Rocks the lead when he calmly slotted home on the counterattack 19 minutes in after the ball was given away by David Hicks.
The momentum of the tie swung hugely in the second half, as Bar found themselves in search of an equaliser, which began with Prosper Keto when he volleyed from 30 yards, but it was saved superbly by Ryan Hall.
Hall pulled out several more stunning stops to deny Bar, saving an effort from Cawley and racing off his line to deny Brandon Adams after he came off the bench.
Bar were denied a late penalty when Harry Brant was brought down inside the box, but it was adjudged to be a fair challenge.
But for all of the Rocks’ hard work, they were undone in the final few seconds, when a poor header back to the keeper found Burgin, who lifted the ball over Hall to break Bognor hearts.
