Ex-Bantams And U’s Left-Back Joins Gateshead

LEFT-BACK Luke O’Brien has joined after turning down a new contract with League Two side Oxford United.

The 24-year-old linked up with the U’s last September and went on to make 18 appearances during the 2013/14 season.

He was offered the chance of an extended stay at the Kassam but has instead opted for a move to the north east, where he will be nearer his family in Bradford.

Confirming the move to the Oxford Mail, the former Bradford City defender said: “It’s closer to home and I’ll be able to travel up on the day most of the time.

“There’s nothing wrong with being at Oxford, I got offered another deal but it was just too hard doing the travelling and being away from my family.”
