STRIKER Robbie Matthews has joined Basingstoke Town following his release from their former Conference South rivals Salisbury City.
The 31-year-old was part of the Whites’ promotion-winning squad last term but was used primarily as a defender by their then-manager Darrell Clarke.
However, Basingstoke boss Jason Bristow has confirmed the former Kidderminster Harriers, Newport County and Forest Green man has been signed as a forward.
Speaking to the club’s website, Bristow said: “Robbie is a very experienced player who we know a lot about, we see him playing as a striker, he is a real handful and given the right service will score a lot of goals.
“He is excellent in the air but equally comfortable with the ball on the floor, he can bring others into play as well as score goals, Robbie has been full time for many years and his knowledge and experience will be a great addition to our squad.”
