CAMBRIDGE UNITED have drafted in Crystal Palace striker Kwesi Appiah on loan for a month.

Appiah came through the ranks of ‘s PASE academy and made his first team debut for them in 2008.

Shortly after making his Fleet bow, the striker went AWOL, eventually turning up at Peterborough United, who announced they’d signed the frontman on a three-and-a-half year deal.

Appiah’s career failed to kick off while at the Posh and he was loaned out on three occasions, firstly to and later to King’s Lynn and Kettering.

Kwesi AppiahAfter leaving Peterborough in the summer of 2010 Appiah joined Brackley but it was at during the 2011/12 season that his career really took off.

The Thamesmead-born marksman netted 35 goals in 34 games for the Ryman League club, attracting the interest of Blackpool, though it was Crystal Palace who clinched his signature on the final day of the 2012 January transfer window.

He has featured 10 times for the Eagles over the past year-and-a-half, while also spending time on loan at Aldershot and Yeovil.

Speaking about Appiah’s loan move to the Abbey, Cambridge United director of Jez George said: “We are absolutely delighted to be able to sign a player of Kwesi’s ability.

“It’s unusual for us to be able to bring in a senior player from a Premier League club, but it is great testament to our Football Department that a player of his quality has agreed to join us.

“With Tom Elliott and Delano Sam-Yorke having missed the last few weeks through injury and still not fully fit, plus such a busy schedule in the next 15 days, it was crucial that we added some firepower to the squad.”
