ADAM LEE has ended his lengthy tenure in charge of Potters Bar Town.
Lee took over at Parkfield in December 2008 and saw his side finish 19th in Ryman Division One North that season.
The Scholars consistently improved their league finishes under his tutelage, finishing 14th, 13th, 12th and 10th.
However, they have not fared quite so well since their switch to the Southern League Division One Central and currently lie 17th in the table.
They were knocked out of The FA Trophy by Whitstable Town on Monday evening and it was following that defeat that Lee stepped down.
A statement from Scholars chairman Peter Waller expressed disappointment at the decision but understood why Lee felt the time was right to leave.
Waller said: “He felt now was the time to go and he wanted to spend more time watching his son Callum.
“He wished everyone well at the club and would remember his time with fondness.
“It is extremely disappointing to see Adam go, but the day was always going to come.
“He has established us as a Step 4 side and each season we have improved, finishing above clubs much more fancied than ourselves.
“He has also stayed true to his principle of playing football, whatever the situation and we have seen the side play some wonderful football and received plaudits from other clubs for the way we play.
“We have not been able to maintain it over a season and other clubs will always come in to poach your better players.
“Adam will always be welcome at the club as he has been one of our best and much respected managers.
“We are still in a respectable position and have a good squad of players and I believe we can still push on.”
The club’s coach, Jack Friend, has taken charge of first-team affairs until a permanent successor to Lee is found.
