Gloucester City Sack Manager Dave Mehew

sacked manager of six years Dave Mehew on Saturday night, after the Skrill North strugglers drew with high-flying United.

The 46-year-old was dismissed after the draw that left the Tigers second from bottom and seven points adrift of safety. However, they do have several games in hand over the clubs above them.

Matty Rose, who recently joined the club to serve as assistant, has taken over temporary charge of the first team.

Mehew, who was affectionately known as Boris, took over as boss in 2007 and led them to promotion from the two years later.

However, without a ground to call their own, it has been hard for the Tigers to push on but they have reached the first round for the past two years.

“It was a collective decision and it wasn’t an easy one,” chairman Stuart Pike said.

“Dave has been a servant to the club but I think he would admit he’s felt tired in the last few months. We felt we needed a change and made that decision.”

Mehew added: “I went into the dressing room after the decision was made and gave the players a rallying call.

“I told them that the point we had just earned that afternoon could be the point that keeps us in the league.

“I also told them that as a group I believe 100 per cent that they are good enough to stay up this season.”
