FORMER Scotland defender Stephen Crainey made his AFC Fylde debut on Saturday just hours after signing for the ambitious National League North club.
Crainey, 34, was thrown straight into Dave Challinor’s side as they won 1-0 at Hednesford Town to move within four points of top spot with two games in hand.
The experienced defender, capped 12 times by his country, has played for fellow Fylde coast clubs Blackpool and Fleetwood Town. He left the Cod Army at the end of last season after 28 appearances in League One.
He is now in Non-League with the Coasters and assistant manager Colin Woodthorpe said: “Stephen’s name came up a few weeks ago so the manager got in touch with him and we are delighted to have him at the club.
“With so many injuries at the moment, we wanted to bring in someone of real quality. His experience will be vital and he marshalled the defence brilliantly. We have two young centre halves and he really helped them.”
