FRANK SINCLAIR says an “honest” three-hour meeting with Hednesford Town chairman Steve Price led to him returning to the Pitmen just two days after leaving.
The former Chelsea defender departed Keys Park on Tuesday night after a chat with Price following the disappointing 3-0 defeat at Stockport County.
That result left the Pitmen bottom of the National League North, three points adrift of safety and seemingly searching for their fourth boss of a rocky season.
However, the former Colwyn Bay boss was back in the job 48 hours later with Price admitting the “kneejerk reaction of accepting manager Frank Sinclair’s resignation was the wrong one”.
Despite winning just two of his 13 league games in charge – both against fellow strugglers AFC Telford – Sinclair is back with the Pitmen as they battle to stay at Step 2.
Sinclair told the BBC: “I had a chat with the chairman after the Stockport game on Tuesday night and it was an emotional conversation which we probably shouldn’t have had straight after a match.
“We’re both passionate about the game and both care about the football club. It wasn’t an intense conversation, it was more of a disappointing chat regarding the run of results.
“Unfortunately the conversation went down the route of me offering my resignation to the chairman and him accepting it because we though it was the best thing to do at the time.
“The 48 hours after that were atrocious for me. When I came to the football club, we put a plan in place for the future and had already started putting things in place to build a youth set up that will start next season.
“I went to empty my office on Wednesday afternoon, spoke to the secretary (Terry McMahon) and he told me how disappointed the chairman was. We were man enough to meet up on Thursday and have a three-hour meeting about what we think has gone wrong from both sides. It was an honest conversation and that put us back together.”
Chief Price added: “There will be some true supporters who disagree with my decision and some who agree, all I can say to the real supporters is to let Frank and Chris (Millington, assistant) get on with their job and give them and all the playing staff your support.
“This is my decision and any criticism of the football club and how it’s run should be directed at me.”
