FC United of Manchester board offer to resign after weeks of unrest

THE entire board of FC have offered to step down following weeks of unrest at the North club.

The Red Rebels’ membership, which stands at over 5,000, were told there would be an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) held soon where board members will either quit completely or resign and then seek re-election.

Many members have questioned the direction the fan-owned club – founded in 2005 as a protest to the Glazers’ purchase of Manchester United – is going in and a number of big name resignations have already occurred.

General manager Andy Walsh as well as board members Adam Brown, Alison Watt, Richard Searle and Blaine Emmett have all stepped down in recent weeks.

And the remaining board members have also offered to quit after “recognising the unrest and upset felt by many members currently”.

The board statement read: “At the EGM, all remaining board members will either stand down permanently or stand down and seek re-election.

“The EGM will elect a new board for the club. This will provide members with the opportunity to vote for a newly-formed board, with a fresh mandate to represent the club’s best interests and best serve the club going forward.

“In the meantime, the current board members will stay in their roles to help with the running of the club until the EGM.

“Board members recognise the unrest and upset felt by many members currently and are collectively committed to ensuring that the co-owners of FC United of Manchester can find a way through the challenges we face at this stage of our history.”

The club, who moved into their new £6.3m Broadhurst Park home last year, have also apologised to fans after a general meeting last Sunday had to be postponed.

The large number of attendees, as well as issues surrounding voting, meant it was “logistically impossible to conduct a meeting that would be inclusive of all present in the room” and it has now been rescheduled for May 15.
