Gainsborough Trinity swoop for ex-Sheffield United youngster Ioan Evans

FORMER United centre-half Ioan Evans has became ‘s ninth signing of the summer.

A former scholar with the Blades before being allowed to leave halfway through last season, Evans has represented Wales up to U19 level and is currently in Sweden as part of the League Education programme.

Gainsborough boss Dom Roma, a former Sheffield United youngster himself, saw Evans turn out for North rivals last season and has subsequently made a move.

The 19-year-old wants to climb back up the divisions after falling out of the Football League and he told the club’s website: “Gainsborough Trinity Football Club are a team going places. I have a great deal of respect for the manager, Dominic Roma.

“My old boss speaks highly of him – and he assures me we are going to be playing football the right way.

“I believe playing for Trinity will give me the perfect platform to play regular football and really showcase my talents.

“The manager has been busy in the transfer market over the summer and I can’t wait to get in amongst the lads during pre-season and stake a claim for a starting spot come August 6.”

After consulting with former Sheffield United U21 coach Chris Morgan before completing the signing, Roma said: “Ioan is a tall, strong, aggressive centre-half that has an excellent pedigree, having represented Wales at international level, who will compliment the defenders already on board at the club.”
