AFC FYLDE striker Danny Rowe has already taken home his third match ball of the season and history suggests he could get even better!
Coasters boss Dave Challinor has described his star man as ‘frightening’ and there’s no doubt a few National League North defenders will be having nightmares.
Rowe, pictured, notched three goals last Tuesday night in the 4-1 win over Curzon Ashton to send his side to the top of the table and added another two on Saturday at FC United take his total to 16 after just ten games.
Targets
The former Fleetwood, Stockport and Lincoln forward’s extraordinary start to the season is made even more impressive by the fact that he has scored more than seven teams in the National League North.
Rowe, 26, who netted 24 in the league last term and 27 the year before that, doesn’t look like slowing down any time soon and has warned he normally only improves!
“Coming into the season, I thought there was a good chance I could end up as the top scorer in the division and that’s the aim for me personally,” he told The NLP.
“This is my third year at Fylde and for the first two seasons I was a bit in and out at the start of the season. I ended up doing well, but most of my goals came after Christmas.
“I always set myself the target of 30 goals so if I can get past that, I’ll just keep going. I’ve got plenty of space for some more match balls, so hopefully they’ll keep coming!”
The ambitious Coasters have never been ones to hide their targets. The plan to be a Football League club by 2022 has been emblazoned on the club’s shirts.
Ingredients
Now moved into their impressive new Mill Farm home, attendances have risen to an average of over 1,500 – a 200 per cent increase on last season.
The National League North play-offs have tripped them up in the past two seasons, but Rowe reckons Fylde have all the ingredients to make the step up at the third time of asking.
“We’ve gone full-time and I really think it will give us the upper hand,” he added. “The new ground is brilliant; it’s brought in bigger crowds and it’s made for a better atmosphere.
“The club is hugely ambitious and doesn’t want to be in this league for much longer. We’ve been close in the past two years and that’s really spurring us on to go up this season.”
