AFC TELFORD UNITED boss Rob Smith says more players could be heading out of the club as they look to reduce the wage budget.
The Bucks have had a tough start to the new season and have won just two of their 12 National League North fixtures so far, leaving them in 18th.
Striker Tom Peers, who only joined the club in the summer from Chester, has left for Evo-Stik NPL Premier side Warrington Town.
“That’s what happens with non-contract players, if seven-days comes in then it’s their choice,” Smith told the Shropshire Star. “He lives that way and I suppose he is after more regular football.”
Peers’ departure leaves Smith with just 15 senior players and two loanees but he says more could be on their way out of the New Bucks Head to reduce costs.
“There’s no more money,” added the former Hednesford Town boss. “We are reducing the budget and the squad. The money is tight. That is where we’re at. I wouldn’t be surprised if one or two more went this week.
“We are looking to tinker to improve the results and find that winning formula. With Connor (McCarthy) coming in, numbers-wise we are not bad – we didn’t ask Tom to go.”
