Stockport County boss Jim Gannon handed “major cash boost” by club’s board

STOCKPORT COUNTY have handed boss Jim Gannon a “major cash boost” as the club looks to climb up the North.

The Hatters are currently 11th in the league table having won seven of their 15 games so far, sitting six points adrift of the play-off places.

County are in first round action on Saturday as they host National League side and Gannon has been given a helping hand by the club’s board.

While no specific numbers have been disclosed, chairman Richard Park said “supporters can be assured that we have handed a significant additional sum to Jim Gannon to use as he deems appropriate”.

Gannon, however, says he won’t be spending the money in a rush with his current squad earning the chance to continue their progress since the start of the season.

Boss Gannon told the club’s website: “I’m obviously pleased that the board recognise the progress we’ve made as a team this season, and they’re entrusting me with a very healthy increase to what was already a competitive budget.

“The additional funds are available to me immediately, but I am not planning to go out and spend the money overnight – the existing squad have made great strides since we kicked off the campaign back in August and they deserve the opportunity to continue to build on the momentum they’ve created already.

“I’m also conscious that there is a limited amount of quality out there at the moment in the areas where I might have considered making additions.  But the additional resource is very welcome and I’m sure we can use it wisely as the season continues.”
