GAINSBOROUGH TRINITY have turned to boss Dave Frecklington as their new manager as they look to climb away from relegation trouble.

Trinity were shocked last week after Dominic Roma decided to step down, saying he could not give the role the focus it needed.

It didn’t take long for the North club to bring in a new boss and Frecklington joins the club following Saturday’s heavy 5-1 defeat at Bradford Park Avenue that left them just a point above the bottom three.

Frecklington arrives from NPL South side Spalding United, who he had guided to second in the table behind leaders Shaw Lane.

The former midfielder took charge of Spalding in the summer, just days after leaving league rivals .

He took Lincoln to the Evo-Stik NPL South play-offs last season but left after their semi-final defeat to Shaw Lane.

Frecklington’s Spalding side have caught the eye this season and Trinity have backed him to make the two division jump to the .

The new boss told the club’s website: “I’ve been in the scene for seven years now and gone from Step 6 up to Step 4 and this is a massive opportunity for me.

“I had a phone call to see if I was interested in the position and it had always been an aim of mine to manage at this level of .

“People look at the position in the table and it’s my job to make sure we get a few victories. I’m confident we can come in and turn the club’s fortunes around.”

A club statement added: “The appointment follows a thorough shortlisting process and a round of successful and productive interviews from a pool of over thirty high quality candidates.

“Frecklington, who has previous managerial experience at Lincoln United and more recently Spalding United, is an up and coming manager looking to impress and test himself at a higher level.

“He is confident he has the ability to manage all aspects of the club, with the primary objective of retaining the club’s National League North status.

Former assistant manager Chris Rawlinson will step up as Spalding’s manager until the end of the season and will be assisted by first-team coach Kevin Ward and director of football Bob Don-Duncan.
