FORMER Plymouth Argyle, Ipswich Town, Portsmouth and Leeds midfielder David Norris has signed up for Salford City’s promotion push in the National League North.
The Ammies currently sit third in the league following promotion from the Evo-Stik NPL Premier last term and joint-bosses Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley have added some more experience to their squad.
Norris, 35, brings a wealth of Football League knowledge with him having progressed from Non-League football with Stamford and Boston United to sign for Bolton Wanderers back in 2000.
He may have failed to make the breakthrough at Bolton but he then became a fans’ favourite at Plymouth Argyle, staying at Home Park for six years.
Norris made almost 250 appearances for the Pilgrims and helped the club to promotion to the second tier before a three-year spell with Ipswich Town, where he was given the captain’s armband by Roy Keane.
After turning down a new deal with the Tractor Boys, Norris moved on to Portsmouth, scoring a memorable goal against neighbours Southampton.
Norris then spent three seasons at Leeds United but was restricted to just 35 appearances due to knee injuries and he then ended his professional career with spells at Peterborough, Yeovil and Blackpool.
He briefly signed for Jimmy Bullard’s Leatherhead in September but has now returned to the north-west with National League north promotion hopefuls Salford.
The midfielder, who runs his own gym in Bolton, made his debut on Tuesday night as City were beaten 2-1 at Stalybridge Celtic in the Manchester Premier Cup semi-final.
